ASCS Speedweek: Crawley Takes Title Sorry for the delay in updating, between vacation 2 weeks ago and Speedweek this past week, I thought it'd be best to wait and make one gigantic update. ASCS Speedweek was last week and Tim Crawley emerged as the champion. Crawley won the first event in Texarkana on June 5th and almost had the Creek County feature on the 9th. Tony Bruce Jr snagged the I-30 Speedway event in Little Rock and also had a chance for the CCS feature. Zach Chappell ended up being the "lucky dog" at Creek County Speedway. After a rainout at the Devil's Bowl, Gary Wright won the feature at Oklahoma City. Finally, Nick Smith wrapped up a big week after finding out he'll be a dad by winning the Lawton Speedway finale by holding off Tim Crawley. The Creek County Speedway event probably topped the Speedweek shows due to the weirdness of the evening. Almost every top ASCS contender had some issue. Gary Wright flipped and spun out a couple of times, Jason Johnson spun out, Danny Wood had problems, Tony Bruce Jr was leading and spun out, it was just bizarre. Seth Bergman was trying to get his first ASCS National Tour win but was denied after Chappell took over from Tim Crawley, who saw his night end on a flat tire. The ASCS2 feature was just great out there at CCS. Kevin Bayer just dominated the whole week, winning every ASCS2 feature for the entire Speedweek. While the CCS event was the only Speedweek event I got to witness, I was listening to the Lawton feature and it sounded like Nick Smith worked his way around Crawley and held tough to win. Brady Bacon had the Speedweek points in hand going into the final night but was not a factor in the A-feature, which ruined his chances at the Speedweek crown. The OCRS has gotten a few more shows in the books since the last time I checked in. Danny Smith won the Outlaw Motor Speedway event while Frank Dittman make the Oklahoma City guys proud by winning the feature in Ada. West Siloam Speedway was rained out over Memorial Day weekend. The next OCRS event is this Saturday, June 20th, at Caney Valley Speedway. The OCRS will be facing off against the NCRA 305 series. Should be a good show and hopefully several 305 cars will show up. For those of you not familiar with 305 cars, while the OCRS runs 360c.i. carbureted motors, the NCRA 305 runs a smaller 305 cubic inch motor with fuel injectors, or basically a smaller version of the ASCS motor. The result is that the cars run very similar speeds and should be competitive with the OCRS cars. Any NCRA guys looking to make the trip may contact Tom Sewell or Barry Grabel. The phone number listed on the OCRS website is 918-260-3899. The Caney Valley Speedway website is www.caneyvalleyspeedway.net. The points race is heating up for the OCRS as Matt Sherrell is out to the early points lead, with Jamie Passmore, Danny Smith, Rafe Essary, and Mike Goodman rounding out the top 5. Another good OCRS show on the horizon is the next OCRS show at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee on June 26th. The reason this show should be good is there is a chance several OKC guys may show up down there as State Fair Speedway is not running on that night due to a Harley Davidson rally at the fairgrounds. Speaking of Oklahoma City, both the super sprints and champ sprints should be back in action this Friday night, June 19th. The last time both classes were in action on the same night was back on May 29th, when Andy Shouse and Michelle Decker shared victory lane. Johnny Kent has won the past 2 features at Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker. Fred Mattox is still the points leader out there. The ASCS Sooner Region kicks back into action at Springfield Raceway in Springfield, MO. Danny Wood is the current Sooner Region points leader and may very well win again with no National Tour action going on this weekend. There should be a good field of cars out there this weekend and hopefully the racing will be good. Creek County Speedway saw Frank Sudduth take the win on June 13th to claim the points lead out at the track. Waylon Weaver got a win out on June 6th. Brent Bates has seen his points lead disappear due to some bad luck last week that saw him missing out on the feature. Ricky York is 2nd in points out at CCS, while David Dutton is now 3rd in points even though he has missed a start out there. We should have pictures from the OCRS event at Ada as well as the ASCS Speedweek event at Creek County Speedway up shortly. This weekend you'll find me out at Caney Speedway for the OCRS/NCRA show. Everyone be safe and have fun racin!
Sewell on a roll This update once again brought to you by Liquid Designs Evan Sewell has been on a roll the past few races. First, he held off Jamie Passmore on the last lap to win the OCRS feature in South Coffeyville. The next week he goes out and beats back Mike Goodman to win the Creek County feature last Saturday night. That is with 27 cars at Coffeyville and 31 at Creek County. He also took the OCRS' first Same Day Auto Repair Dash for Cash. Let's backtrack a little bit and recap some of the action from the past few weeks First off May 8th saw the ASCS Sooner Region square off against the Lone Star Region at OKC's State Fair Speedway. Nick Smith took the win there over an outstanding 56 car field that saw several of the ASCS National Tour drivers on hand. Smith held off Danny Wood throughout the race to take the win. Danny Wood held on to 2nd, although he had to hold off Joe Wood Jr. in the closing laps. Wood Jr finished 3rd, while National Tour racers Jack Dover and Tony Bruce Jr. were 4th and 5th. I believe that 17 out of the 22 drivers in the feature were from Oklahoma, which was great to see the home drivers hold serve. The next night at Devil's Bowl, the Sooner Region again took on the Lone Star Region and this time it was a Texan taking the victory, although it was National Tour dominator Gary Wright in victory lane this time. Oklahoma's own Danny Wood was 2nd while Travis Rilat, Kevin Ramey, and Joe Wood Jr. rounded out the top 5. Brady Bacon and Jack Dover challenged Wright throughout the race but both fell back with issues and neither made it into the top 10. That same Saturday night, May 9th saw the OCRS kick off it's season at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville. Even with the rain that has fallen the state for the last month or so the track at Coffeyville was dry as could be. Unfortunately for the sprint cars this meant one lane racing most of the entire night. That paid off big time for Evan Sewell, who took the before-mentioned Dash for Cash and A-feature. 27 cars were on hand for this show. Jamie Passmore, Matt Sherrell, Rafe Essary and David Stephenson were the heat race winners, while Nigel Calvert held off Mike Goodman in the b-feature. Passmore, Sherrell, Jonathan Beason and Andrew Deal rounded out the top 5 in the A-feature behind Sewell. Danny Smith was right behind Sewell for most of the race but something stopped working right on his machine and he fell back to 7th place. It was a nice surprise to see Waylon Weaver make the tow and got rewarded with a 6th place effort. Most of the fans had left by the time the A-feature came due to the dustbowl that had kicked up, but with a new promoter trying his best to work the track, he will no doubt have the track in better shape for the next go around on July 4th. Several OCRS rookies were on hand, including Beason, Phillip Davis, Kyle Clark, Joe Duvall, Matt Caudle, and Nathan Campbell. It was also nice to see Kevin Risley return back to the track after taking most of last year off from the sprints. Creek County Speedway only saw 11 cars take the track on May 9th, where Frank Sudduth took the win. However, this past Saturday night the 16th saw 31 cars on hand with the OCRS postponing the Ada race a few weeks due to the rain. This time Evan Sewell took the win again, managing to beat back Mike Goodman on the last lap. Goodman had made the charge from the back of the pack and was pulling underneath Sewell when they made contact, knocking Goodman's front end down and setting up a one-lap dash where Sewell held off Goodman's car owner, David Stephenson. David Dutton was 3rd, with Rob Forehand 4th and OKC's Whit Gastineau rounded out the top 5. With all of the action from the past few weeks recapped for you, lets take a look at the standings for the local series. At Creek County, Jackie York hold a decent point lead over brother Ricky York. Frank Sudduth, Danny Smith, and Len Larkin round out the top 5 there. Last years champ Brent Bates is 6th In the OCRS, the top 5 matches the top 5 from the first race, with Evan Sewell holding a slim lead over Jamie Passmore, Matt Sherrell, Jonathan Beason, and Andrew Deal. In the ASCS Sooner Region, Danny Wood has the points lead over Joe Wood Jr, Sean McClelland, Matt Covington, and Brady Bacon. the top 6 in points may run the ASCS National Tour, although it is likely that Joe Wood Jr. will stay to compete for the Sooner Region title. Last year's champ Brian McClelland is not even in the top 10 at this point as he has not even made an A-feature yet, although that is likely to change soon. At State Fair Speedway, Joe Wood Jr leads the champ sprint points over Frank Dittman and Strike Hill, with Gary Owens and Robert Sellers rounding out the top 5. In the super sprints at State Fair Speedway, Darren Stewart is ahead of Joe Wood Jr, Danny Jennings, Chris Lloyd, and Whit Gastineau. At Brill Motor Speedway, Fred Mattox leads Tim Kent, Drew Harless, Loyd Clevenger, and James Fabian Finally, in Lawton Speedway action, Joe Bob Lee is the points leader, with Shawn Bloomquist, Brandon Long, Kyle Ezell, and Brent Swift following. Shane Pace is looking for a new or slightly used block for his ASCS car after seeing a 2nd motor go up in smoke at the Devil's Bowl. He is also looking for a trailer that will hold a car with the ASCS wing still on. David Langford is also looking for a trailer, though i'm not sure what style he is looking for. Check out his Facebook page for message him. This weekend is full of fun for Memorial Day weekend, with State Fair Speedway running both classes on Friday. On Saturday, Creek County will have a show as well, while the OCRS is in action at West Siloam Speedway, which always puts on a good show. Lawton Speedway will be in action too. You'll find me at West Siloam this weekend, I'd expect about the same amount of cars as were at S. Coffeyville, with a few maybe not making the trip and a few new ones that do show up as well. I'll try to check in Sunday with an update of the action so check back later on for that.
Wood Wins Sooner Opener At CCS OCRS opener this weekend, plus more tidbits Sorry this update is so late, but with some large projects and finals looming around the corner I just haven't gotten much of a chance to post on here. Once again this update is brought to you by Liquid Designs, see the banner above and support them as they have supported OKsprints. First off is the ASCS Sooner Region opener at Creek County. Danny Wood took the win over Jamie Passmore in a great evening of racing. 36 cars were on hand for the opener and the crowd was good as well. Wood got high up in turn 2 but Passmore could not get around him. Dustin Morgan wound up 3rd and was challenging Passmore at the end. The heat races were won by Wood, Foster Landon, Koby Barksdale, Sheldon Barksdale, and Shane Pace. Pace had a motor failure at the checkered flag and was done for the night. Frank Sudduth pulled off a good drive in the A-feature after having to transfer through the First B, unfortunately he found himself tangled up in turn 4 as the checkered flag waved. While rain has dominated the early part of the season, there have been several other winners since the last post. Matt Sherrell and David Dutton picked up Creek County wins, while Whit Gastineau, David Lee Lambert, and Loyd Clevenger have won at Brill Motor Speedway. At State Fair Speedway, the super sprints have seen Darren Stewart win twice and Chris Lloyd once, with Shane Sellers, Strike Hill, Kyle Cobb and Joe Wood Jr all take wins. Wood Jr. was driving the Red number 71 owned by OK Sprints forum regular, jdsprint71. Congrats to JD on the win! Brent Swift, Robert Sellers, and Shawn Bloomquist took wins at Lawton, while Jonathan Beason won an SMRS event. This weekend is full of racing, whether permitting. First the ASCS Sooner vs. Lone Star regions fire off at Oklahoma City on Friday night. They move to Devil's Bowl in Texas on Saturday, with the OCRS opener at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville as well. Creek County and Lawton are set for a points show that night and at Brill Motor Speedway they are going to have champ sprints and super sprints. Congrats to Matt Covington from Glenpool, who won the 360 sprint feature at Knoxville this weekend with the ASCS National Tour being rained out. It was Covington's first sprint car win, although he is a multiple time quarter midget champ. Want Mafia Motorsports gear? Stop by Shane Pace's trailer for Mafia Motorsports hats and t-shirts and more. Pace is scheduled to be at both ASCS Sooner Region events this weekend, so whether you are at Oklahoma City of the Devil's Bowl, check that out and get some badass Mafia gear. As for me you'll find me at OKC on Friday night while I plan on watching from the stands at S. Coffeyville for the OCRS opener. My dad will have pictures from the ASCS Sooner Region at CCS on the site soon, and he should be taking pictures at both ASCS events this weekend. If you have a Myspace or Facebook account, check out the contacts link to add me to your Myspace/Facebook friends. There you can find some pics that I have taken myself. See you at the races. Stay dry and be safe Phillip Passmore Wins Brill Motor Speedway Opener Opening Weekend for CCS on tap, plus more news This update is fairly large with some new information to pass along. First, Jamie Passmore won the 1st sprint car feature at Brill Motor Speedway a couple of Saturdays ago over a nice little 14 car field. Tim Kent was 2nd with Brian McClelland 3rd. The track was great as it was pretty sloppy for hotlaps but was just about right for the heat races and feature. Fred Mattox caused the only red flag of the evening as he slammed into the wall in turn 3/4. He was fine and the car appeared to be as well. In a separate incident, Dean Drake Jr came to a stop on the front stretch and Mattox got together with David Stephenson. Stephenson was done for the night with a flat front tire and some damage to the front axle. Stephenson had started in the very back and had worked his way up to 5th in a very short period of time. Kyle Clark and Evan Sewell also represented the Tulsa area. Brent Swift, Dan Schnackenberg, and Andrew Marshala were some of the OKC regulars on hand while Brill Motor Speedway regulars also on hand were defending champion Cody Metscher, Drew Harless, and James Fabian. The Creek County Speedway opener was cancelled last weekend due to the large amount of snow and CCS will try again for this weekend, April 4th. CCS has upped the pay scale for the sprints slightly, now offering $500 to win and $100 to start the feature. A good field of cars are expected for the opener so be sure to make it out there if you can. Hopefully the huge hole in turn 1 will be fixed or else it will be very dangerous for the sprints out there. The ASCS National Tour race at OKC was also cancelled this past weekend. A makeup date has not yet been set, but they do plan on making it up. The OCRS has added three dates at the reopening Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville. May 9, July 4th and September 5th are the dates to mark down on the calendar. I do believe that Mid-America is working on some ASCS dates as well but have not finalized anything quite yet. This weekend the only sprint car action on tap are Creek and Meeker, so get out to either of those tracks and support the local cars. The weather should be warm and hopefully the rain will hold off.
Update 3/11/09 Not too much of an update yet, but I would like to pass along a few notes of interest. First off there has been a huge update to the drivers page of the website. I've added a ton of drivers who I have recently seen plans for. Also, thanks for Sprintcarsis and Scott for sending in updates for several drivers as well. Second, I would like to remind everyone that this Saturday from 1-5 is scheduled to be the first practice at Creek County Speedway. The High Temp for Saturday is supposed to be around 50, with a slight chance of a shower. Not sure if I'll make it out there Saturday but if I do I will have pictures for the site. Speaking of Creek County pictures, go to the CCS website, www.creekcountyspeedway.com, and view pre-season pics. Some of the drivers who have cars on the CCS site include Kevin Cummings, Waylon Weaver, 08 champ Brent Bates, and Robbie Sherrell, who is moving up from Front Wheel Drive, according to the site. the Oklahoma Tidbits message board has a few links of pictures from the State Fair Speedway practice this past weekend. Go to www.oklahomatidbits.com and click on the "Forum" and there will be several links to view. The OCRS vs NCRA 305 race at 81 Speedway has been cancelled, however they are hoping to get together on a new date. The Caney Speedway OCRS vs NCRA 305 race is still scheduled however. Finally it is that time for March Madness again, and Sunday night after this bracket has been released I will put up details about my yearly Tournament group. Anyone can join and it is just for fun. That is pretty much all for this update. I'll pass along more news as I get it. Small Update-New Site Features Not much going at the moment as many racers are putting the finishing touches on their cars for the year. However there are some new website features that I think you will enjoy. First off I'd like to again mention Liquid Designs for your paint schemes for this year. Danny is excellent at his work and you will not be disappointed if you use him. The first new feature I would like to share is the 2009 Racing Schedule posted under the Schedules link above. I have created this week-by-week look at the sprint car racing options around the area. Every OCRS, ASCS Sooner Region, CCS, Meeker, Lawton, and State Fair Speedway sprint car race is listed, along with select races from the ASCS National Tour, SMRS midgets, and World of Outlaws whenever they are competing in the area. It is very printer friendly and looks great. I have included a link to the Excel file I created so that you can update and personalize the schedule however you feel like before you print it. I have also added the Video Links portion of the page finally. I have linked the first 3 videos that I previously posted for your viewing enjoyment and hopefully I will be adding more at a steady rate in the weeks to come, so check that out on a frequent basis. I have also made updates to the Drivers page as well as the Links page of the site. Drivers send in your 2009 info as the season nears. So far Waylon Weaver informs me that he plans on running for the Creek County Speedway championship and Shane Pace plans on running the ASCS Sooner Region as well as some select other events next year. In the links page I have updated and added some tracks to that page. I have also added the link for www.openwheel.org, which is a great website that I recently stumbled upon. That is about all for this update, I will continue to make improvements to the site so keep checking for updates.
Swindell Wins 5th Chili Bowl Title Sammy Swindell is the winner of the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals last Saturday night at the Quiktrip Center. Swindell swept every event he was in this week as he took the Night of Champions race, his heat, qualifier, and feature on his qualifying night, then went on to dominate the 2nd half of the A-main on Saturday night. Tim McCreadie took a terrible spill and is beat up after his crash on his qualifying night. French Grimes is OK after his accident and so is Frank Polimeda, whose helmet was cracked after the crash he took during the C-qualifier. Tracy Hines was the runner up to Swindell, with Brad Kuhn, Jerry Coons Jr and J.J. Yeley rounding out the top 5
Gary Taylor was the highest finishing Oklahoman in the Bowl as he finished 12th. Donnie Ray Crawford was 17th in the A-feature while Daryn Pittman finished in the 20th spot. Pittman was moving far up the field before he spun and came to a stop in turn 2. Mike Goodman was moving in his B-feature but got caught up in an accident with a couple of other cars. Goodman kept the car running but was caught on the bumper of another car. Once they got them separated apparently something was wrong with Goodman's car as he did not make it back to the feature. Dustin Morgan was 9th in his B-feature. Matt Sherrell gave it his best shot and was moving up through the features after having to start in the D. However it was not the night for him as he spun out with only a couple of laps left and finished 10th in his C. Jonathan Beason was 8th in that same C feature. Brady Bacon was finished after the E, although he had come up from the G-features. Creek County Speedway's 2009 schedule CCS's 2009 schedule has been released and it looks pretty decent if you are a sprint car fan. The sprints will be at the track every week this year starting March 28th. There are 3 Sooner Region shows on tap for this season on April 25th, July 25th, and Sept. 19th. The ASCS Speedweek will be back on June 9th and the Sprint Bandits and SMRS midgets will both be on hand August 11th. When the ASCS sprints are there the champ sprints will NOT be running. Also, at the end of each month (except April and July) the champ sprints will run wingless. The rest of the shows will be winged. The season wraps up October 31st with the Fall Fling and Chuckie Holmes 100 Lap Enduro race. The OCRS has yet to release their schedule but they do have 9 races planned so far with another 3 to 4 races that they hope to schedule. They are going to try to schedule their races when the ASCS Sooner Region is not running so to give racers the opportunity to race both classes if they choose. So far it seems there will be at least 6 or 7 rookies running this year for the rookie of the year. Drivers Updates Waylon Weaver, driver of the W94 car, has a new website, http://www.wwmotorsports.com. Joe Duvall mentioned at the Chili Bowl that he hopes to run a champ sprint for a few races this year. Daryn Pittman is no longer driving the #21 Titan Garages World of Outlaws car. He will now be the driver for the #25 Pete's Motorsports car. The team plans on running Florida and will most likely run mostly in the tough Central PA area, although they hope to travel if sponsorship shows in the meantime. Zach Chappell will be running the e85 car in the NCRA and ASCS this year. Shane Stewart will be in the 1hd again this year, a car he has been fairly dominant in. If you are a driver and would like to share your 2009 plans, please email one of us and we will get the news on this site. That is about it for this update. Remember sprint car owners, it's that time of year to get the car painted and ready for the season, so give Danny @ Liquid Designs a call and let him help out! Happy New Year From OKSPRINTS Yes the website is still alive and well and I apologize for not updating the site sooner. Thank you for being patient and I can assure you that the next update will not be as late as this one has been. This update is once again brought to you by Liquid Designs. For your new year, get a new paint job by Liquid Designs. Visit the Myspace site for pictures and details. The OCRS luncheon is set for next Saturday, January 10th. No RSVP necessary as it is at the Western Sizzlin at 21st and Sheridan. Just show up and pay for your own meal and then have some fun with your OCRS racing friends. Jamie Passmore will be honored for his OCRS championship and Matt Sherrell will take home 2nd place as well as Rookie of the Year. Speaking of rookie of the year, the 2009 RotY is being sponsored by Same Day Auto Repair with special awards to be given at the end of the year. So far, 3 OCRS rookies have filed paperwork, Kyle Clark, Ricky Green, and Phillip Davis. The ASCS National Tour schedule is tentatively set and Creek County will host a Speedweek race much like last year. So far 33 races are on the National Tour schedule, visit www.ascsracing.com for the full schedule. Hopefully the Sooner Region schedule will come out shortly after the Chili Bowl. Speaking of the Chili Bowl, good luck to all of the local drivers scheduled to be in the Chili Bowl. Rafe Essary, Matt Sherrell, Brady Bacon, Eddie Martin, Wayne Johnson, Daryn Pittman, Randy Timms, Gary Taylor, Chris Burns, Michelle Decker, Ryan Cole, Trey Robb, Andrew Deal, Brent Swift, Kevin Battles, Jonathan Beason, Dex Eaton, Lee Little, Donnie Ray Crawford, Shane Carson, Matt Johnson, Joe Duvall, Kevin Bayer, Dustin Morgan, Jacob Rosario, Cody Brewer, Curtis Bailey, Frank Flud, and Danny Jennings are the current crop of area drivers entered to run, and it is expected that Mike Goodman will be added to that entry list shortly as well. That would be quite a feature to see in itself. The World of Outlaws will be racing at a couple of tracks in Texas next year. Hopefully some of us will be able to make a trip there to see some of the best sprint car drivers in the land do battle. Drivers, it is once again time to send in your plans for 2009. Inform of your plans now and let your fans plan ahead for next year. The next update for this site should be after the Chili Bowl most likely, although I may pop in with an update if any OCRS, ASCS, or Creek County next comes in before then. Good luck and I will see everyone later!
Finally! A New Update Sorry for the lack of an update recently, but i've been very busy with school and work. Updates may not be as frequent as I'd like, but I'm still going to post when I get caught up for a moment. First off, Congrats goes to Brian McClelland for his 2nd consecutive ASCS Sooner Region championship. Brian had to work for it as the Sooner Region finale was a combo show with the ASCS National Tour at Cowtown Speedway. Neither Brian nor Kolt Walker made the feature the first night, setting up a mad dash on Saturday night to determine the champ. Brian held off Kolt Walker by finishing 10th while Walker got 11th. Walker came in 2nd in Sooner Region points and Joe Wood Jr was 3rd. Also, congrats goes to Brent Bates for his 2nd consecutive Creek County Speedway championship. Frank Sudduth and Danny Smith were sneaking up on Bates for the championship but Bates held on. 26 cars were on hand for the championship finale at CCS and Matt Sherrell took the win over Dean Drake and Mike Goodman. Ricky York, Jamie Passmore and Zach Beeler were the heat race winners. The OCRS has a big couple of weeks on tap as the series first heads to Enid this Saturday before heading to Tri-State Speedway on November 1st. Jamie Passmore is very close to clinching the championship as he needs just 41 more points to secure the championship over Matt Sherrell. Passmore held off Sherrell at the last OCRS event at Outlaw Motor Speedway over a field of 17 cars that featured drivers such as former Sooner Region champ Sean McClelland and ASCS National Tour drivers Nick Smith and Kenneth Walker. Creek County Speedway is running wingless this next Saturday night while Oklahoma City State Fair Speedway will run champ sprints in their big modified show this weekend as well. Good to see some new drivers pop up over the last part of the season. Leroy Cook Jr has moved from the modifieds to the sprint cars at Creek County Speedway, while other newer drivers for the past few weeks have included Kyle Clark in the 6$ and Tom Deckard in the #3. Brian Roberts has also returned to sprint action and got a victory at CCS a couple of weeks ago. Johnny Kent is finishing the season in the 2nd David Stephenson car. ASCS National Tour is putting on the Short Track Nationals this weekend in Little Rock, AR. It starts Thursday and ends Saturday night. 72 cars are currently pre-entered and more are sure to show up. Locals expected to show include Kenneth Walker, Nick Smith, Gary Taylor, Brady Bacon, Joe Wood Jr, Wayne Johnson, Zach Chappell, Dustin Morgan, and Gavin Punch. Well that's all for this update, be safe! Big Weekend On Tap For Local Sprints With Hurricane Ike impacting all the racing in Oklahoma this past weekend I have no results to pass on to you, but I do have some news to pass along as well. Tough decision this weekend for those who want to see a good race as there are two good shows planned this weekend. First, This weekend is the OCRS race at Ada that was originally scheduled for last Saturday. Racing begins at 8 PM and there should be a good car count with this being the closest race to Oklahoma City and the only place other than Brill Motor Speedway hosting 2-barrel champ sprints this weekend. $1000 to win $225 to start this show. The Outlaw race from this past weekend will now be held October 3rd. The new OCRS finale will be held November 1st at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola. Details of that race are still to come. Also, The ASCS Sooner Region also fires back up this weekend at Creek County Speedway after being washed out by Ike at Cowtown on Saturday. I was excited about this show until the OCRS race was rescheduled for this weekend. The Sooner Region car count has not been spectacular all year, and it does not help that the OCRS guys that run at Creek will be away. Also, any OKC guys that have to choose between ASCS and OCRS may choose the Ada show because it will be closer. However, there should still be between 20-30 cars and the Sooner Region has always put on a great show, as does the ASCS in general. So if you do not want to go to Ada the Sooner Region show is still a great show to attend. It is unfortunate that both the OCRS and the Sooner Region are in action this weekend because both events are great and it is a tough decision to make on which one to go to. The race scheduled for Friday night at Mid-America Speedway featuring the champ sprints is apparently cancelled. The owner/promoter of the track has been unreachable all week and word is that the rest of their season is done. Another day, another Tulsa Speedway rumor put to rest, it appears. Don Hubbard reported via Tulsa Metro Racing Board that the latest attempt to reopen Tulsa Speedway is not looking like it will happen, which to me was not all that surprising. It is going to take one of our racing friends to win the lottery and pay that lady multi-millions for her to let go of that land, it appears. A shame too, it would be fun to see the sprints and mods back at that track. I never saw a Friday night show there though so I don't know about the full-bodied cars. Brill Motor Speedway is having their final points show this Saturday night. They will be having their Fall Nationals on October 3rd and 4th. Champ sprints are running for normal weekly purse on the 3rd and $600 to win, $100 to start on Saturday night. More details on the Brill Website. Even though there was not racing in Oklahoma this past weekend, the World of Outlaws were able to make their debut at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. The Wild Child Jac Haudenschild won the event after holding off Craig Dollansky. Donny Schatz was 2nd, Jason Meyers 3rd, with Kraig Kinser 4th and Dollansky settling for 5th. OKsprints.com friend and occasional contributor Scott (aka The One Man Wrecking Crew) has sent some pictures from that event and those will be posted under the "Pics by Scott" link in the coming days, most likely at the beginning of next week. I will be back with an update either sometime Sunday evening or Monday, enjoy the races whether you are at Ada, Creek County, or Brill this weekend. Drivers- stay safe and try to keep them on four(or at least three) wheels. Passmore Wins Creek: OCRS up next Not too much racing results to pass along this week with just a couple of races going on. However there is plenty or news and rumors to go around so lets get started. First Jamie Passmore got past Danny Smith and Mike Goodman to win the Creek County Speedway race this past Saturday night. 16 cars were on hand for the event. Smith went on to get the runner up spot and Goodman finished 3rd. Evan Sewell was 4th and Jackie York rounds out the top 5. Points leader Brent Bates finished last but still has a sizeable lead on 2nd place in points of Frank Sudduth. Cody Metscher won yet again at Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker, OK. Only 8 cars were on hand for the event and only 7 took the green flag for the feature. James Fabian got the runner up spot at that race. Eddie Middleton took the win at the Lawton Speedway finale for the season. Robert Sellers won the points championship down there yet again. 9 car were on hand for the champ sprints last Saturday. Creek County Speedway has CANCELLED their final OCRS event, which was scheduled for October 11th. While this takes away from the OCRS, the good news is there is still the huge State Fair Speedway Winter Nationals in Oklahoma City. Normal pay for Friday night at OKC while Saturday night pays $1000 to win for champ sprints and $2000 to win for the super sprints. Hopefully a good amount of the OCRS guys will go down there and play after catching the OU-Texas game earlier that day. Not sure whether it was actually CCS who decided to cancel or the OCRS, as both had reasons. CCS was surely not happy about the lack of crowds the combo shows were bringing, while the OCRS was probably upset that CCS scheduled sprints to run against them after they had promised they would not run sprints on the OCRS weekends. Either way I was hoping they would not cancel this event but sure enough that is what happened. The OCRS has some big plans this weekend with a double dose of action. First up is Friday night at Outlaw for the final race of the year there. The monster truck the Barbarian is also scheduled to be out there so it should be a fun night to bring the kids as well. Saturday night is the 2nd annual Ada 2-barrell sprint state championship, which is going to be held at Ada Motorsports Park. Usually a good car count for that show as OKC guys make the trip. Maybe some Lawton cars will make it as well with their season all wrapped up. David Stephenson got together a motor for Mike Goodman to continue racing this year, which is obvious since they ran at Creek County this past weekend. Hopefully this motor will last a little longer than the last few have. Several OKC cars are definitely going to show at Ada on Saturday, and a few have plans to run Outlaw on Friday night as well. Kevin Pickard has dropped a 2-barrel motor into his car, which is normally a super sprint driven by Mike Goodman. Pickard is planning on running both nights. Thanks to Scott for that info. Happy late birthday to Waylon Weaver, who celebrated his birthday this past Saturday with a 6th place showing at Creek County Speedway. The ASCS Sooner Region fires back up with a show at Cowtown this weekend. The Sooner Region is still saying that the South Coffeyville event is still on as scheduled for Friday October 3rd, but the South Coffeyville website has reported otherwise. Keep it here as I will let you know when I find out for certain whether that show is on or not. In the meantime, Coffeyville still has plans to run the champ sprints on Friday September 19th. Speaking of Coffeyville, if everything goes well with the special on Sept 19th, they plan on running the champ sprints on a weekly basis next year. If I were them, I would not run the sprints every week but would try to schedule some OCRS shows, or at least some special non-sanctioned shows throughout the year. So far that's all for this report, I might chime back in with anymore news that develops regarding this weekends racing action.
